Take the Road Less Traveled

What’s one piece of travel advice you always follow?

It is a saying I have heard for most of my life, I don’t even know who said it, “Take the road less traveled.” This bit of advice has done me well, whether in my local area on a trip far away. I have discovered isolated beaches, amazing cliff views, an old church on a mountain top in Portugal, to name a few.

Most of these roads less traveled have been dirt roads or just two tire tracks among the grass, sometimes with overgrowth on both sides of a narrow passage. Sometimes these roads take me on a wild goose chase, with nothing of significance to be seen, but for me it was still better than being on a paved road with lots of traffic.

Grays Beach, at the end of a none descripted road along the coast of Maine.

I’ve been fortunate never to have had any issues while traveling on the road less traveled, but you need to be prepared. Seeing the places I have been able to visit, with no crowds and no tourist traps, has been worth following that bit of advice.

  1. It’s Robert Frost poem “Road not taken “ – one of my favorite poems and you have been following that advice all your life 🙏
