How I Feel Near The Ocean

A recent visit to the Downeast coast. A place where I get away from the busiest parts of life, where time slows down. No appointments, no deadlines, just endless coastline to explore. I love going into the woods, hiking a mountain, but there is something different about being near the ocean.

Is it that our bodies are 60% water, and, according to studies, blood plasma shares a surprisingly similar mineral composition to seawater? Or is the sound of waves crashing a sort of “pink noise,” masking harsh background noise and regulating our brainwaves, allowing deeper relaxation and better sleep? Or is it that the color blue is associated with peace, tranquility, and stability, and watching the ocean’s movements is soothing and doesn’t require much brain activity?

Whatever the reason, I am thankful for the calm I feel near the ocean and for being able to visit when I need to.
