Holding On, Or Letting Go?

I took this photo about two weeks ago along the coast of Schoodic Peninsula in Downeast, Maine. The day after a snowstorm left the area feeling like a winter wonderland. Now, two weeks later, parts of the state will be seeing temperatures in the 50s F and, quite possibly, in the 60s F (10s to 20s Celsius).

Some people will be thrilled with this: the melting of the snowpack, less fuel consumption to stay warm, and a sense that this long, cold winter is coming to a close.

Others will be trying to hold on a bit longer. The local snowmobile clubs and their many members, the alpine skiers and their favorite mountains, and most importantly, school kids (and teachers) hoping for one more lazy snow day.

Me? I fell into the group in the middle. Wishing for one more winter hike, one more run down the local ski mountain, and one more walk on a frozen lake. But I’m also looking forward to warmer days, with thoughts of yard projects, outdoor concerts, and trips to the swimming hole.

Where do you fall? Are you holding on or looking ahead to warmer days?
