Back in October, life took me to Newburyport, not somewhere I usually get to. I had hoped to again visit the beaches of Plum Island with its National Wildlife Refuge. But heavy rains and winds curtailed those plans.
Instead, I spent some time around both sides of the Merrimack River. A stop at Abraham’s Bagel was the perfect stop: good coffee and a pumpernickel bagel, toasted with vegetable cream cheese. Then a spot at the window counter was perfect for watching the comings and goings on Liberty Street. People watching can be an enjoyable pastime.
Later, I stumbled onto the Salisbury Town Wharf, a tranquil place on a rainy October morning. But the ideal place to get some photos is on the river. That is where I took this photo. A photo I truly had not envisioned as I planned this trip, but a photo I’m happy I had the opportunity to take, several Double-Crested Cormorants, sitting on a floating dock, representing a lazy morning.
I welcomed a lazy morning that day. Though I prefer to live in a small town these days, Newburyport is a place I hope to visit again.

I bet they’re all hanging out and gossiping about the people watching them especially on rainy days ☔️💦☔️
