In the Forest

This morning, we return to my photos from a recent hike of Speckled Mountain for more fungus photos. The more time I spent in the woods and on the mountains, the more I enjoy all the different variations of fungus.  I have enough pictures of mushrooms that I could probably do a gallery showing of only fungi.

Now, I’m no expert on fungus by any stretch of the imagination; maybe someday I will be. Anyway, some online research suggests the fungus pictured here is a type of bracket fungus, likely a species of Reishi mushroom (genus Ganoderma) or Red-belted Conk (Fomitopsis pinicola).

What I can say for sure is how much I enjoy these red and white creatures popping out of an old decaying log.  The contrast they provide to this forest scene is perfect.  I hope you enjoy this photo.
