A recent visit to the coastline of the Schoodic Peninsula area of Acadia National Park provided me the opportunity to take this photo, green algae on the pink granite rock.

Most of my life algae was viewed as a slimy plant in lakes and ponds you dreaded swimming into, as it would stick to you. But as with many things in nature, in a different form or environment, it can present much differently.
