Where The Tracks Take The Memories

Abandoned railroad tracks are found scattered here and there across the country. It is a reminder of a different time, and that change is constantly happening. Sometimes, there is a romantic touch to old abandoned railroad tracks, as the sight of them can take those old enough back to a time earlier in their life. For me, the sight of old railroad tracks takes me back to the days of my youth spent at a summer camp with a railroad bisecting the camp property. One of the day’s highlights was watching the two very long trains pass by, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Their horns, heard well before the trains spotted, acted as an alarm for every camper who had a penny in their pocket to race to the tracks to place that penny on the tracks. We would all be amazed at how flattened and smooth those pennies were after the train had passed. All these years later, I have forgotten the names of my fellow summer camp pals, but I still remember their faces. What memories do the sight of old railroad tracks bring you?
