It was a few years ago that I was driving from Downeast Maine to the Western Mountains Region of the state, taking the route less traveled. Those back road trips allow you to see parts of Maine not necessarily seen by the masses.
One of the spots I stopped at that day was the 456 acres Long Cover Preserve in Searsport, managed by the Coastal Mountains Land Trust. Long Cove is wet lands and deep forest. The day I visited the 3.5 miles of easy hiking paths were a welcome break from behind the steering wheel.
So, if you are in Searsport, most likely near the sea, head inland to the Long Cover Preserve for a break from the hustle and bustle.
